The geese happily accept newcomers to the fold. It just takes a little gentle
introducing of them.
The new chickens are taken out daily to mingle and Rae is the cautious one. She needs to make sure Jill is safe from any attack! Jill pops the chickens into a raffia waste paper basket and with Raquel under her arm marches them all off to a secure place where they can spend time in the fresh air of the paddock. Meg came to visit and, though we have no pictures of the episode, she had to be taken off to spend time in the car because Rae was spitting and hissing as a warning to Meg to stay clear of Jill. Rae may only be 11 months old but she is well aware of her guarding responsibilities! It was Meg's turn to guard Jill later in the day when the male pheasant arrived with two females. They strode up the drive and Meg wanted out so she could check whether the newcomers were a threat to Jill and all the other animals. Of course we kept tight hold of her while Jill nipped out and threw food over the garden. A regular thing at Wenlli. We reckon word is spreading across the Denbighshire Moors - "Go over to Wenlli, Jill will give you a good meal!" Latest from Wenlli ... "I think Ray knows she is a girl, although she has not laid this year she has been seen on Babe's nest sorting out the eggs and sitting for short periods of time, or until Babe realises and chases her off." By the end of June the hens have hatched 2 clutches, one from Raquel and one from Cassandra. All little black chicks like Dad!
